Looking for a taste of Himalayan trekking, but are limited in time or physical ability? The foothills around Kathmandu host unspoiled Nepali village life, centuries of history, and intense views of Himalayan snow peaks.
The trek starts at Sundarijal, or "Beautiful Valley", and climbs steadily to the reservoir which supplies water to most of Kathmandu. This is a popular location for picnics. The path continues through Tamang villages and dense forest, where you may spot monkeys frolicking in the trees. The journey continues to Nagarkot, a favourite destination for many visitors to Nepal. On a clear day, excellent views of Himalayan snow peaks can be seen from the ridge top. On the third and last day, the trek ends at Changunarayan, the oldest temple in Nepal. The journey back to Kathmandu via Bhaktapur city rounds out the cultural experience.
